Job Title: Government Relations Officer
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Reports to: General Manager, Kenya
Internal: Key Management in company’s regional offices, company’s
employees across locations
External: Governmental Organizations/Agencies, Community Representatives,
Consultants and contractors, Suppliers / Agencies
Job Brief/ Purpose: To serve as Government Relations Manager for the Company operations in Kenya.

Responsibilities and Key Objectives:
Assist the General Manager with:
- Developing and
managing relations with Government officials
- Managing company
media relations when authorized to do so by the General Manager
- Managing
community relations
- Establishing and
maintaining effective working relationships with local and municipal
government officials
- Providing
strategic advice and support in respect to government and regulatory
relations
- Managing
stakeholder engagement strategies and manage the effective and efficient
government interface and response
- Providing
oversight of public relations issues, and events
Additionally:
- Coordinate
meetings with the organization and government officials
- Arrange
government/official visits/events
- Apply and follow
up on work permits (immigration) and exemptions
- Liaise with the
Ministry of Energy, National Oil Company and statutory bodies in the
Kenyan energy sector
- Assist
organization to contact government officials
- Support organization’s
staff with information on government procedures
- Be responsible
for all communication with Government and be able to prepare and provide
information and briefings to government and stakeholders representatives
on business matters and work closely with the wider team to ensure
consistency of message and effective delivery to all stakeholders
- Any other
procedures assigned
Financial / budget responsibility:
- Ability to
handle expenses
Person Specification
Education/ Qualifications:
- University
Degree preferred
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Previous
experience in a similar role with a strong Government Relations focus is
highly desirable
- Knowledge of the
O&G industry would be beneficial
- Knowledge of the
Kenyan political system
- Previous
experience of liaison with local government or agencies would be
beneficial
- Strong
communication and relationship building skills
- Sound judgment,
integrity, tact and discretion in dealing with others and good
interpersonal skills
