Summary:
To provide and co-ordinate the daily activities of the Programme's Occupational Health Service so as to ensure the safety and well-being of its employees and continued compliance with Occupational Health Safety statutory requirements and current best practices.
Reporting Lines:
Post holder will Report to the Health and Safety Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct health
surveillance programmes including prevention of infection and any form of
workplace injury in individuals potentially at risk from their work and in
staff who need to travel for work.
- Proactively work
towards the prevention of laboratory allergic sensitisers and continuously
monitor individuals working with toxic, infectious materials or any other
hazardous substances.
- Review and
assess pre-employment medical history forms and carry out appropriate
follow ups and referrals.
- Participate in
developing and implementing an Occupational Health Database for the
Programme.
- Give
occupational health seminars, presentations and induction sessions; train/
teach first aiders who require specialised training for work-related
hazards.
- Coordinate
implementation of preventative health promotion and education clinics for
staff on both occupational and non-occupational health risks.
- Undertaking
workplace risk assessments, for example, ergonomics of work stations,
stress at workplace, etc, present findings and make appropriate
recommendations based on assessment.
- As a member of
the Health and Safety Committee, actively participate and provide written
recommendations to the Committee on all aspects of occupational health
nursing requirements.
- Liaise with
staff from other relevant service departments, for example the Fire
Wardens and Safety Officers.
- Coordinating
pre-employment, annual and specialised medical examinations, health
surveillance activities, administering vaccines to staff and keeping
accurate records.
- Participate as a
key player in the First Aid Programme and contribute technical support
during first aid continuous professional development sessions.
- And any other
duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Skills and Competence:
Qualification and experience:
Qualification and experience:
- Kenya Registered
Nurse (KRN)
- Recognised
training/ qualification in occupational health
- At least 5
years’ experience in providing occupational health services
- Experience in
infection controls
- Experience
working with databases
- Computer
literate; proficiency in Microsoft Applications.
