Polish Humanitarian Action is a non-governmental organization
established on 1994.We concentrate mainly on ensuring sustainable and stable
development of regions suffering the consequences of war or natural disasters.
Our interventions (of both humanitarian and development character) have been
carried out in 43 countries till now. They are mainly focusing on the WASH,
Food Security and Educational sector.
Polish Humanitarian Action is looking for an individual willing to join in the actions carried out within the PAH Humanitarian and Development Aid as: WASH Technician

Position: WASH Technician
Location: primarily Jonglei State; all states of South Sudan
Terms and Conditions: Duration: 11 months with the possibility of
extension, depending on funding for following projects; July 2012
Key Areas of Accountability:
Key Areas of Accountability:
WASH Technicians will be part of the Emergency Response Team
created specifically to respond to WASH emergencies occurring in Jonglei State.
The Team will be capable of providing emergency water supply and sanitation
solutions, as well as hygiene promotion suitable for Jonglei and other
states.
The main responsibilities of WASH Technicians will be:
- Visits to the
areas where WASH emergencies occur and responding to these emergencies
through:
- Rehabilitations
and drilling of new boreholes
- Borehole and
other water scheme repairs
- Upgrading
boreholes to mini or full water yards
- Setting up
Surface Water Treatment plants (SWATs)
- Constructing
emergency latrines, rehabilitating existing institutional latrines
- Cooperation with
local authorities and local communities
- Facilitating
appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential
WASH services and facilities
- Cooperation and
working with local pump mechanics
- Cooperation with
Project/ Programme Coordinator in general, and specifically in managing
procurement and logistics for project-related equipment and material
- Maintaining an
accurate record and taking proper care of all field equipment and material
stocks for the WASH ER Team
- Keeping proper
records of field expenditures and reporting accordingly
- Documentation
and monitoring of water infrastructure, water point mapping
- Writing reports
from carried out interventions
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
Essential:
- Diploma in Water
Technology, Water Engineering or related
- At least 2 years
of experience in the WASH sector
- Emergency
response experience
- Experience in
drilling and repairing India Mark hand pumps, experience in
repairing Duba Tropic will be an asset
- Strong command
of written and spoken English
- Ability to write
clear reports
- Valid driving
license
- Ability to cope
with simple living conditions in insecure environments
- Team spirit,
supporting a team of up to 7 people
Desirable
- Language skills
in Arabic
- Experience of
working and living in South Sudan and Jonglei State in particular
- Ability to use
communication technologies: Thuraya / radio
- Previous work
experience in NGOs
