Diakonia is a Swedish non – governmental organization, created
over 40 years ago by six Christian denominations in response to emergencies in
different parts of the world.

political, economic and social structures that generate poverty, oppression and
violence.

Diakonia, seeks to recruit a Program
Manager – LVRP to
provide leadership in the, coordination, implementation, resource mobilization,
and administration of its Lake Victoria Rights program (LVRP).
The position reports to the Deputy Regional Manage.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide
overall leadership to the LVRP and oversee the implementation of the
program.
- Build
and maintain strong and productive relationships with civil society
organizations, donors, government agencies and other relevant
institutions.
- Manage
resource mobilization for the program.
- Provide
support, accompaniment and coordinate capacity building of partner
organizations.
- Coordinate
thematic areas support (i.e. sexual and reproductive health and rights
(SRHR) including HIV and AIDS, social economic justice, human rights and
gender mainstreaming.)
- Oversee
finance and administration of the program including the budgeting process,
allocation and disbursement of funds in respect of the program, and timely
submission of program reports.
- Network
with other like-minded organizations for purposes of lobbying and
advocacy.
- Manage
staff linked to the programme.
- Arrange
and facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of the program.
3. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
(The knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience, or on-the-job training)
(a) Level of Education/Academic Qualification
Masters (Advanced) degree in development work or humanitarian
studies, or other social sciences.
A Bachelor’s degree in the related field with proven work
experience may be considered.
(b) Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications
- Proven
knowledge of Project Cycle Management.
- Proven
knowledge and skills in Human Rights Based Approach.
(c) Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required
- Extensive
knowledge and strong skills in SRHR, HIV and Aids, Human Rights, Gender,
and Social and Economic justice.
- Experience
of working with small and rural NGOs.
- Knowledge
of the context of the Lake Victoria region.
- Proven
skills and positive outcome in resource mobilization and donor relations.
- Strong
skills in strategic work and development of programmes.
- Strong
skills in monitoring and evaluation.
- Very
good knowledge in financial management and resource management.
- Extensive
experience of networking and advocacy.
- Effective
leadership and managerial skills; strong result oriented approach.
- Must
have the ability to plan and work with limited supervision.
- Good
intercultural orientation (ability to relate and work with people of
diverse backgrounds) and strong public relations skills.
- Effective
communication skills and must be fluent in both oral and written English.
(d) Relevant Work Experience
A minimum of seven years experience in development work with
extensive practical field work within the East Africa Region.
Duration: 2 years contract with possibility of extension
depending on funding.
