The Hilde Back Education Fund, a Kenyan‐based charitable
trust focusing on the education of bright children from poor families
seeks a qualified person to fill the position of outreach and fundraising
coordinator.

Note: This is a new post in a new
team tasked with growing HBEF’s income over the next five years.
Finding and keeping profitable donors is
crucial for growth; ultimately HBEF’s fundraising success will depend on
the quantity and quality of supporters that the post holder delivers.
Responsibilities of the position of Fundraising Coordinator
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of the
Hilde Back Education Fund (HBEF) and the
overall guidance of the HBEF Board, the main responsibilities and tasks of the
holder of this position will be to:
- Coordinate
all fundraising efforts of HBEF and ensure that the organization’s
funds dramatically increase in order to ensure sustenance of HBEF
programmes.
- Dramatically
increase HBEF’s income, by rapidly growing the number and value of
HBEF donors.
- Build
profitable and mutually rewarding relationships with donors and potential
donors. That will include a broad range of donors from a few multi‐million dollar corporate
donors to tens of thousands of middle class supporters.
- Head
and supervise the outreach and fundraising secretariat that has been
established within HBEF with a view to creating a dynamic and vibrant
fundraising network capable of bringing increased funding for the
organization.
- Organize
a special event in October 2012 to mark the birthday of the HBEF patron
and use the event as a way of raising HBEF’s profile and fundraising.
- Create
and manage a network of local and international fundraising volunteers.
- Advise
the HBEF Board and staff on all matters pertaining to fundraising.
- Conduct
research on all funding sources that are relevant for the work of HBEF and
develop a strategy to approach all such funding sources.
- Ensure
the activities are conducted in compliance with relevant standards and
guidelines developed and amended from time to time by the HBEF Board.
- Perform
other relevant duties, as required by the Executive Director and the HBEF
Board.
Required Competencies and skills
- Solid
and in‐depth knowledge of, and
exposure to, a range of issues related to fundraising, especially for
charitable trusts.
- Excellent
analytical and communication (spoken, written and presentational)
skills, including the ability to persuade donors to support HBEF
programmes, produce a variety of written reports in a clear, concise
style, to deliver presentations to external audiences, and to build
and maintain effective partnerships capable of increasing HBEF’s funding
base.
- Ability
to establish priorities and to plan work assignments, juggle competing
demands and supervisory tasks, and work under pressure of frequent
and tight deadlines.
- Proven
interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi‐cultural, multi‐ethnic environment with sensitivity
and respect for diversity. Experience in managing a team is an advantage.
Qualifications required
- Advanced
university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent). A long period of
experience with direct fundraising work may be accepted in lieu of
the advanced university degree.
- Work
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant progressively responsible
professional experience in charitable trusts or NGOs or any
organization or company, in a fundraising role.
- Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English. An additional international
language would be an asset.
