Lutheran World Relief
(LWR) is US non-governmental organization headquartered in Baltimore,
Maryland, that works with partners worldwide to reduce poverty and injustice by
helping communities increase and expand the resources they need to live
productive, healthy, and empowered lives.
LWR has a regional office
in Nairobi, Kenya and country offices in Uganda and Tanzania.
Purpose:
The CD is the
leader-manager for the Kenya program. Her/his primary responsibility is to
develop both short-term and long-term strategies for sustainable development,
manage office staff to carry out these strategies, and coordinate with national
and international governmental and non-governmental counterparts in a manner
that comports with LWR’s vision, values, and strategy.
S/he plays a key role,
working with other LWR departments at the regional and headquarters levels to
link programs and partners to donor, constituent, and advocacy targets.
Key
skills, Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate
will demonstrate a deep commitment to LWR’s core values and an ability to model
those values in relationship with local implementing partners, peer NGOs, and
international donors.
The candidate must have a
master’s degree in a relevant field and at least 8 years of experience with
progressive levels of responsibility in the design, management, implementation,
monitoring, and evaluation of sustainable development and emergency response
programs. Strong skills in value chain development for agricultural products
are preferred.
The candidate will
demonstrate experience identifying relevant partners and developing their organizational
capacities as needed. S/he will have strong skills to manage an office, oversee
programmatic and financial program implementation, and supervise staff.
The successful candidate
must have excellent communication skills in English and Swahili and be
available to travel up to 40% of the time.
