The Programme Assistant will work closely with the Health Officer to perform a variety of information gathering, monitoring, technical and administrative services of moderate scope and difficulty, in support of programme activities.

The successful candidate will be offered a Fixed Term Appointment for one year. Further extensions will be based on organizational needs, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Major duties and responsibilities:
·         Collect, register and maintain statistical information on project activities by reviewing various project reports, situation reports (sitreps), finance and supply reports; from discussions/meetings with project officers and implementing agencies and/or from visits to project sites.
·         Scrutinize plans of operations, monitor project activities by reviewing a variety of records, including control plans, progress reports, project inputs, budget and financial expenditures.
·         Review incoming mail and exchange correspondence; and take appropriate follow-up action; drafts suitable responses for supervisor’s signature or clearance for signature.
·         Ensure that all policy and technical documents and reports and correspondence related to the programme are properly maintained for easy reference.
·         Contribute to the preparation of status and progress of activities by reviewing a variety of records, including control plans, progress reports, project inputs, budget and financial expenditures.
·         Undertake field visits to UNICEF project sites for the purpose of monitoring and providing information, preparing tables and drafting selected sections. Prepare background material for use by the Project Officer in discussions and briefing meetings.
·         Carry out specific administrative operational and/or control tasks for project activities and on-the-job training for national staff and counterparts. This may include field visits to project sites.
·         Assist with the recording and administrative processing of government requests for assistance.
·         Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Experience and competencies
·         Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in a field related to the work of the organization.
·         Six years of progressively responsible clerical or administrative work, of which at least one year is closely related to support of programme activities
·         Ability to operate Microsoft Office computer programmes.
·         Proven ability to organize and prioritize work, manage and monitor the effective use and safekeeping of fixed assets and financial resources
·         High sense of integrity with demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
·         Fluency in written and oral English and Somali required.
