Our client is a multinational information technology company in Kenya providing the complete systems solutions from conception to implementation and maintenance. They render their services to small and large organizations worldwide and major in Banking Software, Micro Finance software, Savings Co-operative Internet Banking, Switching Software Products, Mobile Banking and other financial software products.  They encourage creativity and productivity while working closely with their customer base to create products that are functional and easy to implement.

They are looking for a high calibre individual to fill the post of
 Chief Operating Officer.
S/He will be responsible for the company’s day-to-day operating activities, including revenue and sales growth; expense, cost and margin control; and monthly, quarterly and annual financial goal management. 

Primary Responsibilities
This role encompasses all aspects of finance, from reporting, systems, treasury management and tax planning, to commercial decision making, strategic planning, investments and acquisitions, and staff development. An appreciation of cost control and commercial negotiations would be useful.  As with most businesses, there will always be processes and systems to update or develop.

Ensure the provision of a comprehensive financial service of information, analysis advice and control that contribute to the long-term development of Craft Silicon and the achievement of revenue, profit, cash flow and other growth objectives.

   
 Executive management and strategy, 

·                         Participate in corporate strategy development as a member of the senior management team.
·                         Advice to the CEO and Board on an ongoing basis on the financial position of the Company.
·                         Contribute to the development of strategies, plans and objectives for Craft Silicon to ensure profitability and the sound use of assets.
·                         Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and Board and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
·                         Coordinate preparation and ensure timely circulation of Board papers and any other material required for Board meetings.
·                         Engage the board finance, audit, and risk committee around operations and strategic issues, trends, and risks.
·                         Promote Craft Silicon with financial institutions and other suppliers to get the best possible business terms.
·                         Oversee financing strategies and activities.
·                         Represent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, auditors etc.
·                         Develop and manage accounting staff.
·                         Support the company towards achieving an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 3 – 5 years

  
  Financial planning and analysis
·                         Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets, financial business plans and forecasts to deliver business objectives in line with Craft Silicon’s the long-term strategy.
·                         Develop and utilize forward-looking financial models and financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and business plans.
·                         Carry out effective financial evaluation of various business initiatives to ensure decisions are made on a sound basis.
·                         Carry out analysis of financial performance and develop recommendations.
·                         Ensure cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.
·                         Ensure adequate tax planning to optimize the company’s tax position and ensure timely payment of any taxes
·                         Develop, implement and monitor cost management strategies.

    Accounting, administration and risk management
·                         Oversee the finance and accounting department to ensure maintenance of all accounting systems and function.
·                         Develop and implement financial management systems including accounting, reporting, internal controls and prepare a policies and procedures manual.
·                         Ensure maintenance of the general ledger and carry out monthly reconciliations.
·                         Monitor and ensure maintenance of internal controls and financial procedures and the management of risk to protect Craft Silicon’s interests.
·                         Evaluate and provide financial input into commercial agreements entered into by Craft Silicon.
·                         Deliver high quality and cost effective purchasing services to meet business needs.
·                         Ensure the provision and delivery of legal and company secretarial services which meet the needs of the business.

 
   Reporting and Compliance
·                         Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for CEO, Board and Investors including the preparation and communication of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and any other operational reports.
·                         Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions including coordinating audits and filing of tax returns.
·                         Administrative and project management oversight to the planned change management program.
·                         Ensure the overall program links to a company’s strategic goals and prioritize projects in terms of Craft Silicon’s overall governance and management processes and objectives
·                         Assist project team leaders with business case development and provide decision support for the board, management, team leaders, staff and stakeholders involved in the program

·                         Manage resource allocation and resource capacity needs across the program for effective utilization.
·                         Co-ordinate the preparation and monitoring of the program budget
·                         Ensure regular project status reports are available to decision-makers on a regular basis
·                         Coordinate communications across business units and aggregate and communicate project status to the CEO and Board
·                         Conduct regular quality assurance reviews
·                         Facilitate project planning sessions
·                         Manage the program schedule and monitor schedule variances and recommend corrective action.
·                         Coach and mentor project team leaders
·                         Ensure that project data and project team evaluations are recorded and distributed to decision-makers
·                         Lead post-implementation reviews
·                         Capture and record lessons learned

    Other
    Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Board or the CEO 
 

skills and requirements 
We are looking for a qualified financial expert and CPA(K) with hands on experience, capable of working within a fast growing company, capable of operating at Board level, technically proficient and commercially aware.  Experience in a growing service company will be useful but not essential.

The successful candidate must possess the following minimum competencies and experience:
·                         A university graduate with post graduate qualification in financial management and at least 8-10 years at senior managerial position in a reputable organisation
