Underwriting Manager Job Vacancy

A leading general insurer in Kenya renowned for their world class high performing environment is looking for an underwriting manager. This is a leading role in the department with responsibility for driving the profitability of the company. The position reports to the Managing Director.

UNDERWRITING MANAGER
Purpose

This technical role has emphasis on gaining market share through a variety of innovative underwriting techniques. It involves providing information and analysis on the current market underwriting trends and
 taking advantage of any new markets.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver budgets and lead underwriting pricing strategies.
Carry out detailed risk assessment, risk pricing, quoting terms, to determine acceptability, coverage and pricing.
Prepare and process policy documents and endorsements.
Underwrite new and renewal business on motor non PSV products for instance third party private,
comprehensive and third party commercial (Non PSV)
Carry out revenue and claims analysis and issue underwriting profit recommendations.
Recommend creative alternatives in regards to rating plans, coverages, and payment plans
Work closely with sales department on initiatives around product development, processes,
underwriting policy and strategy; recommend and implement changes to improve productivity,
profitability, growth and the quality of products.
Implement and ensure compliance of all underwriting policies and regulations with regulator
requirements.
Monitor critical areas, such as loss ratio, costs, retention ratio and new business hit ratio,
formulating corrective action where necessary
Analyze different companies’ motor products and success attributes.
Ensure delivery of high quality and timely reporting.
Qualifications and Competencies
Business related Degree from a recognized University and professional insurance qualifications is
compulsory. Knowledge of actuarial science is desirable though not a must.
Superior technical knowledge, at least 5 years working experience at a senior position, preferably
underwriting general business lines specifically motor insurance.
Proficient in MS office suite and numerically inclined.
Possess strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills
Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and general insurance procedures.
Persistence, an eye for detail and ability to complete projects and stick to deadlines.
Key strategic and negotiation skills with a strong background of managing teams are essential.
