A friend called me the other day, incensed by a comment that had been made by a former subordinate they had parted ways with. The ex-subordinate was trying to discredit the organization my friend works for and, of course, send a broadside to the effect that she is rudderless, unfocussed and should not be in the position she occupies. My friend wanted to know whether I go through similar experiences and how to deal with them.

When you are in a position of leadership, you will inevitably have enemies, rivals and detractors. There is very little you can do about this. The best you can do is to develop a management system that is not vulnerable to sundry detractors. There are a number of key factors and philosophical considerations that inform such a system.
